CAMP FISH TALES MEDIA ANNOUNCEMENT
May 20, 2017
State Senator Mike Green, representative of Bay, Lapeer and Tuscola counties in the Michigan Senate, visited Camp Fish Tales, a barrier free camp that provides unique and specialized camping experiences for individuals with special needs, during an Open House on Saturday May 20th. The state senator joined others in touring the camp’s grounds and facilities before addressing the gathering and presenting a framed tribute to the camp in honor of its mission and legacy within the community.
The highlight of this year’s Open House was a “rock wall” climbing tower that the camp recently acquired through two grants provided by the Bay Area Community Foundation and the Michigan Baseball Foundation. The tower will be used throughout the summer to allow campers with cognitive and physical disabilities a chance to “ascend toward the sky” and try rock climbing in a manner that is assisted and safe. Open House visitors of all ages had the opportunity to climb the tower, paddle and pontoon on the camp’s lake, hike throughout the camp’s wilderness area and enjoy hot dogs and other treats.
